Join us to hear Dr Ruan Zongze, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Brisbane speak on China's current foreign policy and its proposed solutions to the emerging challenges in international affairs.

What is the driver of China's foreign policy? How does China assess its strategic environment? What is the best way to advance and safeguard Chinese interests? What are the possible Chinese solutions to the emerging challenges ahead? He will begin by analyzing the features of Chinese modernization and elaborating on the relationship between self-reliance and opening up. Then he will address China's foreign policy orientation in the context of the perplexing international situation. Last but not least, he will discuss possible impacts on China-Australian relations in the future.

    Dr Ruan Zongze is Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Brisbane since June 2022.
    Born in December1965, Doctor of Laws, he was the former Executive Vice President and senior fellow at China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) in Beijing.
    He was second and then first secretary at Chinese embassy in the United Kingdom from 1996 to 2000, and he also served as minister-counselor at Chinese embassy in the United States from 2007 to 2011.
    Dr Ruan published several books on international relations and Chinese foreign policy such as What Dose China Want (2019).
