A Struggling Peace: Extremism, Democracy and Development across the Sahel and West Africa - Hosted by the AIIA Queensland


Join us in-person with the High Commissioner of Australia to Ghana, H.E. Berenice Owen-Jones, who will lead a group discussion with participants on the ongoing geopolitical tensions, challenges for democracy and developmental prospects across the Sahel and West Africa.

For those attending, please arrive at Holding Redlich at 5:20pm for registration as the event commence strictly at 5:30pm. The event will be in-person only and an attendance fee of $10 will be applied. After registering you will receive a follow-up confirmation email containing further details. This event is intended to provide a place for collaborative engagement on the wide-ranging issues affecting the region in Africa. Issues for discussion include, but are not limited to, the following.


  1. Ongoing geopolitical tensions across the Sahel.
  2. Challenges to democracy and representative governments.
  3. Efforts to counter violent forms of extremism.
  4. Presence of multibillion dollar mining investments from Australia.
  5. Facilitating trade and development in West Africa.


Those that attend will be able to learn and explore these issues and more with none other than the High Commissioner of Australia to Ghana, H.E. Berenice Owen-Jones.
