Pat Conroy is the Member for Shortland, a federal electorate covering the Lake Macquarie and Northern Central Coast area in regional New South Wales. Conroy is an economics graduate and was national economist for the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union. He worked as a senior Ministerial policy adviser in the Rudd and Gillard Governments in the defence procurement and climate change and energy portfolios. He was elected to federal Parliament in 2013 as the Member for Charlton and became Member for Shortland in 2016 following an electoral redistribution. His Parliamentary service has included Deputy Chair of the Joint Public Accounts and Audit Committee, Deputy Chair of the House Environment and Energy Committee, Deputy Chair of the House Privileges Committee and member of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics. After his appointment as Shadow Minister for International Development and the Pacific in 2019, Conroy played a key role in developing Labor’s Pacific and development policies for the 2022 federal election. He was appointed as Minister for International Development and the Pacific and Minister for Defence Industry in June 2022.
