In 2022 the Australian government announced that as part of its foreign policy settings it would centre Australia's First Nations. Through Australia's modern history the place of Indigenous peoples has vexed colonial and public policy. Foreign Minister Penny Wong's engagement in this space reflects shifts in public expectations towards Indigenous Peoples in the Australia polity. Darren will explore fundamental opportunities that this policy shift brings for the Australian national interest. Is the policy framed in ways that understands the geostrategic shifts underway within the Indo-Pacific?
